About Me

Introduction:

So, I’ve been working pretty tirelessly on getting NatureInpiredGifts.com set up.  And, as I closed in on the finish line, the fact that I still needed an “About Me” page began to loom large.

Truly-if you’re anything like me, you aren’t too crazy about figuring out what to say about yourself.  I mean, I could talk your ear off about a lot of things, but “myself” isn’t one of them.

And because I wasn’t sure how to start or what to do, I searched for “What should be on my About page.” Here’s the answer it gave:

“Incorporate personal anecdotes, experiences, and insights. Share stories related to your products, industry trends, or general life experiences that align with your brand's values and resonate with your audience.”

Uhhh….

I don’t know about you, but that doesn’t sound easy.

Plus, when I read that, everything I know about myself just flushed down some kind of brain toilet.

So, I’ve decided I'm just gonna write a few things about myself here and worry about whether it’s right or wrong later.

(You could also help me by asking questions if you have a minute.)

Sound good?  Here we go:

My Love for Nature:

The fact is, I want to be outside more than I want to be inside.

When I’m outside getting fresh air, I just feel happier and more positive both physically and emotionally.

And every year, here in the midwest, when winter buries us in snow, I realize how much I miss the leaves, dirt, flowers, etc of the warmer months, and regret the minutes I stayed indoors when I could have been outside!

Now, I just want to point out that  I DO like going outside in the snow, it's beautiful and brings a sense of peaceful calm. Sometimes it seems I’m watching the Earth sleeping.

Plus, I enjoy the challenge of putting on as many layers as humanly possible, so that I can go out in colder and colder temps.

(I’ll let you decide if I’m kidding.)

But, when the snow begins to melt, I start spending more and more time staring out the backdoor window watching things slowly green.

By the time March rolls around, I’m right back out there, digging in the garden and finding yard projects.

I’ve always been into the patterns and colors of nature in my home decor. If you visited, you’d see that  nearly all of my home is nature-inspired.  My dishes, linens, and even my dog’s harnesses have something to do with botanical and floral themes.

Helping the Earth

When I was younger, I’ll admit I didn’t know much about our environment and the different things we can do to make less of a mark on the Earth.

However, as an adult, I’m trying to make more responsible choices wherever possible, like switching to reusable food wraps and using clean burning candles.

A few years ago, when I found out the monarchs were struggling, I looked into ways I could help keep them from going extinct.  I just wanted to know If there was anything I could do to help.

I found that people like me- “ordinary people” can build waystations for them so they have a place to come eat and lay eggs.

(I got very excited about the project and built it as quickly as I could),

And the next year, I had little monarch eggs to help raise!

Now I feel I truly can make a positive impact, and  I make a habit of adding more and more eco-friendly products and projects to my life wherever possible.

Not to mention the way I relax during a normal day...is a bit odd.

I relax by looking for and learning about botanical art and eco-friendly products, as well as the artists and businesses behind them.

I can’t help it, I love the research!

If I like an artist's design, I want to see all of their designs.  If I discover an independent business creating eco-friendly products, I want to know how it got its start, how the creators came up with packaging, how they produce things…the list goes on…

And at some point I realized, hey, I can combine all these things and create a business that shares what I find with people like me.  At Natureinspiredgifts.com, I aim to curate those unique and nature inspired goods from small businesses and share them with others.

(that’s you)

From my obsession with the outdoors to my mission to make greener choices in life, NatureInspiredGifts.com is more than just a business—it's a reflection of who I am.
